Positional thoughts for the upcoming season, giving the lows and highs of players to watch heading into your fantasy baseball drafts.
Initial rankings are listed here for the
catchers.
Overall, you can't go wrong with
Gary Sanchez or
Buster Posey. They are both top quality offensive producers, but it just depends on what you're searching for - on base percentage or home runs.
Staying with the power theme,
Evan Gattis and
Mike Zunino will likely be your top home run hitting catchers (behind Sanchez). In the mix between the power hitters is
J.T. Realmuto, who will offer fantasy owners a nice blend of power and on base percentage.
Because the catching position lacks offensive punch, most owners will fall back on reliable veterans, such as
Yadier Molina and
Russell Martin.
Two players that should plenty of playing time in the American League are
Wilson Ramos and
Robinson Chirinos, respectively. Both players have either been plagued by injuries or the depth chart. With a full set of 100+ games, each has a change to hit 20 home runs.
Top catching prospect,
Chance Sisco, will more than likely begin the season as the every day catcher for the Baltimore Orioles. Although he's a contact hitter with on base skills, his development will be focused on catching and calling games for a big-league pitching staff.
