In this edition of 2019 Fantasy Boom, we examine right handed starter Joe Musgrove of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
After acquiring Musgove during the 2018 off-season, the Pirates had the then 25-year-old righty start 19 games. Overall, he struck out 100 hitters in 115.1 innings while walking a total of 23 batters. Overall, he struck out 20.6% of hitters he faced and walked only 4.7% - both were very good ratios. Although he only racked up 6 wins with an ERA of 4.06, he showed two great signs for a starting pitcher - the ability to strike hitters out and limit free passes.
For 2019, the Pirates look to have Musgrove as a staple in the rotation as the third starter every 5 days, which will certainly push him close to 200 innings pitched on the year. Overall, look for Musgrove to pickup another handful of wins to push him into the double digit total. On draft day, he's a later round pick or even a waiver wire addition, but someone who should be owned.
