With the World Series over and winter fast approaching, things are just getting heated up with the MLB Hot Stove. Baseball Press will bring you instant news and fantasy analysis of each major move this winter.

The Detroit Tigers kept with their theme of signing free agents early and often this season by adding catcher Victor Martinez on a deal reportedly worth $50 million over four-years.  This move comes after the Tigers had already signed Brandon Inge, Jhonny Peralta, and Joaquin Benoit.

V-Mart, who hit .305/.351/.493 with 20 home runs over 127 games last season with the Red Sox, figures to see less time at the catching position and more time as the regular designated hitter for the Tigers in 2011.  Youngster Alex Avila, who hit .228/.316/.340 over 333 plate appearances and platooned with the miserable Gerald Laird, figures likely to receive a bulk of the catching duties for the Tigers next season.

Regardless of where Martinez signed or his defensive ability, his bat propels him into the top 5 among fantasy catchers for 2011.  The switch-hitting catcher has hit at least 20 home runs over the past three seasons and given the fact that he's likely to catch less than 100 games this season should hopefully keep Martinez healthy. Detroit should have a nice middle of the lineup with Miguel Cabrera and V-Mart for the 2011 season.
