Clinical Notes: Forget Me Not

High risk, high reward in 2010? (AP)

Once fantasy players get hit with the injury bug, owners usually forget all about those star players on draft day. Don't break your payroll on these guys and certainly don't forget about them.

Ben Sheets - SP, Oakland Athletics
Sheets will be well rested when he returns to the mound this spring after an elbow injury caused him to sit out the entire 2009 season. In Sheet's 2008 All-Start season, he finished 5 th in ERA with 3.09, 11 th in batting average against on his way to a 13-9 season. He was also in the top-20 for wins, innings pitched and strikeouts. The A's new No. 1 starter will be the veteran in the team's young bullpen who's ERA, wins and strikeouts were all in the top 10 in the AL last season. The move to Oakland will benefit Sheets due to The Coliseum being a pitcher-friendly park and if his 2010 numbers are anywhere close to what he did in 2008, it could be a very productive season.

Carlos Beltran - OF, New York Mets
Beltran may be one of the biggest red flags in fantasy baseball this season after part of the 2009 season and undergoing knee surgery in January. He isn't expected to make a return until May and it may take a little while longer for the 32-year-old CF to regain his speed. The Brightside is that Beltran was hitting .336 before heading to the DL. The unpredictability of Jose Reyes this season and the fallout from third basemen David Wright's disappointing 2009 season only make Beltran's absence even more devastating. However, there is still a chance that the Mets may be fine without Beltran thanks to the acquisition of outfielders Jason Bay and Jeff Francoeur being in Queens for the whole season.

Grady Sizemore - OF, Cleveland Indians
Grady underwent operations in September to take care of persisting abdominal and elbow injuries and should be able to bounce back in 2010. His production in only 106 games (64 RBIs, 18 home runs and 13 steals) proved that he was capable of playing through the pain so any lingering effects from last season shouldn't slow him down too much.

Rickie Weeks - 2B, Milwaukee Brewers
Rickie's wrists will be the key factors in his 2010 comeback after injuring his right wrist in 2006 and the other last season. 2009 looked to be the productive season that he needed after hitting 9 home runs in 37 games and hopefully he can be the Brew Crew's reliable lead-off man. Weeks will have to be a key piece in Milwaukee's infield this season after shortstop J.J Hardy was traded to Minnesota and Casey McGehee moving to third base. If he can shake off his past struggles and maintain the flashes of brilliance that have described his career, Weeks will have decent production this season.
